The Petroleum Fund, in collaboration with the Department of Energy, convened a capacity-building workshop for thirty-three (33) members of the Lesotho Mounted Police Services (LMPS) on 26 September 2024. The workshop aimed to provide LMPS members with essential information on Fuel Pricing Compliance and Safety, Health, and Environmental standards at Filling Stations.

In her opening remarks, the Acting CEO of Petroleum Fund Adv. `Makananelo Kome (picture insert) stated that the workshop sought to improve law enforcement regarding petroleum products to prevent tax evasion, ultimately benefiting both the sector and the country as a whole.
Additionally, Deputy Commissioner of Police Mr. Sera Makharilele emphasised the significance of this forum as the first of its kind to provide LMPS members with training on the complex Petroleum Industry systems. He highlighted the importance of LMPS Officials understanding this industry to prevent crime effectively nationwide.
Furthermore, Mrs. Nthomeng Seepheephe, a representative from the Department of Energy, expressed appreciation to LMPS management for enabling their members to take part in the workshop. She recognised the significant role of LMPS Officials in the industry’s development, making them feel valued and important.
In a nutshell, this training workshop was one of the ongoing series of stakeholder engagement and strategic partnership developments complementing the District Administrators’ meeting that the Fund has embarked on. The overarching objective is to attain some of the set objectives in the 2023-25 reviewed Strategic Plan. Finally, this workshop was forecasted to instil adherence to the SHE Standards and Fuel Compliance within the Petroleum Sector and ensure a crime-free sector.
