Advocate Makananelo Kome is the Corporate Affairs Manager and Company Secretary at the Petroleum Fund. She is the Head of the Corporate Affairs Department which is mandated to provide specialised and technical advice to the Petroleum Fund on legal, corporate governance, risk, compliance, secretarial services, and communication.
She is a highly motivated Counsel, Corporate Governance, Ethics, Risk and Compliance Specialist with a broad set of skills which are applicable across different industries and roles. Having progressive and extensive experience in a full cycle of legal matters and regulatory compliance risk management; can draft governance, compliance, risk and ethical frameworks, plans and reports, and implementation thereof. She is a well-rounded innovative leader with the following skills; interpretation, coordination, interpersonal skills, report writing, budgeting, ability to develop others, risk, compliance and ethics management, contract management, secretarial and corporate governance. She has also acquired strategic planning, change management and project management skills, and is a solution provider who believes that corporate governance, ethics, risk and compliance enforcement have to be achieved by effectively managing both present and future risks.
Known for good communication skills, analytical, and ability to adapt quickly to new surroundings and situations, she has learnt to work towards, and achieve goals with great commitment and perseverance. She aims to be a corporate governance, legal, ethics, risk, and compliance expert who will provide governance and risks solutions and venture into governance or legal technology, in order to see entities being sustainable, satisfying all their stakeholders while also living up to good corporate governance standards.
Before joining the Fund, she worked as a Compliance Specialist at the Central Bank of Lesotho, previous to which she had worked as a Human Rights Officer at the Transformation Resource Centre (TRC) in Lesotho. She has over ten years of combined corporate work experience, and as an admitted Advocate of the Courts of Lesotho has also practiced law in the courts of Lesotho while working for the M & R Chambers.
She holds a Master of Laws (LLM) degree in Commercial Law from the University of Cape Town, a Post Graduate Diploma in Compliance Management from the University of Johannesburg, and a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from the National University of Lesotho. She is a certified Compliance Practitioner and a member and affiliate with the following bodies; Law Society of Lesotho, Compliance Institute of Southern Africa (CISA), Association of Certified Compliance Practitioners in Africa (ACCPA), Institute of Directors Southern Africa (IDoSA), and Society of Corporate Compliance and Ethics (SCCE) in the United States of America.
